New Ballon bleu de Cartier - Undiscovered Horological Universe
By WatchPro | September 24, 2007
The Ballon bleu de Cartier watch is the latest accomplishment of the renowned brand. Even if the timepiece seems absolutely round to you, it is not quite true. The Ballon bleu is round on the top and round underneath, but if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that the watch’s shape is a little more complicated. Cartier specialists managed to create the shape that makes the timepiece fit the wrist weightlessly, and the first time the owner of the watch puts it on one’s wrist, he/she gets the impression he/she has been wearing it for ages.
The designers of the Ballon bleu de Cartier watch created the timepiece with a few surprising features. The winding mechanism of the watch is embellished with a sapphire cabochon. The precious metal protective arch makes this original detail even more appealing than ever before.
The Ballon bleu de Cartier also surprises with gentle curves reminding a pebble and the case rounded on both sides. The creators of the timepiece opted for the style that is the mixture of classic and futuristic. The glass is meant to magnify the numbers. The 12 black Roman numerals presented on a varnished silvered opaline dial are slightly displaced by the winding mechanism and stray from the common path.
The latest model from the House of Cartier sports a few distinctive characteristics:
- the guilloche dial
- the sword-shaped hands
- the links of solid gold or solid brushed steel for the watch’s bracelet.
- water resistant to 30m/100ft.
The Ballon Bleu de Cartier is created in a range of variations:
- yellow gold large(42 mm) and small(28.5 mm) model
- white gold with diamonds medium-sized model(36.5 mm)
- gold and steel large model(42 mm)
- pink gold with diamonds small model(28.5 mm)
- white gold large model(42 mm).
The name of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier, the timepiece with its elliptical profile, special roundness, and extra-blue winding mechanism, implies a promise of a new horology planet.
