One of the greatest complications a watch can have is a perpetual calendar. In fact watches with a calendar are divided into three times – Quantieme Simple, Quantieme Perpetuel and Perpetual Calendar.

Watches with Quantieme Simple show date, days of the week, months and sometimes phases of the moon. Usually all this information is shown in additional little dials. All the corrections are done by hand.

A quartz movement can be programmed to consider different number of days in the months. It is much more difficult to make up a mechanical watch that would consider all the peculiarities of Gregorian calendar. That is why Quantieme Perpetuell and Perpetual calendar that sometimes consists of 650 details are so much appreciated by watch connoisseurs.
Quantieme Perpetuel, that is often associated with Perpetual Calendar includes a mechanism that considers different number of days in the month – 28, 30 or 31. Perpetual Calendar also has the indicator of leap year. Month indicator of a watch with perpetual calendar features a gear that is divided into four sectors, one of which indicates the leap year. This gear circles in four years. Thus perpetual calendar shows the date, the day of week, months, moon phases and leap year without any intervention of the wearer.
