BASELWORLD 2009 - Wyler Geneve Code-S Chronograph

By WatchPro | May 15, 2009

wyler-watches1On the opening day of the 2009 Baselworld, the Swiss luxury watchmaker Wyler Genève presented its new chronograph collection named Code-S, comprising 17 models. The watches are made of stainless steel or 18-carat red gold.

The distinctive tonneau case of the Code-S chronographs is smaller and more rounded  than that of their predecessor, the Code-R. The chronographs have the same sandwich construction, with two metal plates fixed to the case with the help of four titanium sprung-mounted screws to provide the shock-absorbing function.

The watches feature Wyler Genève’s patented crown protector. In order to use the rubber-coated crown, it is necessary to open it on both sides by the means of sliding pins. The chronograph pushers, looking like automobile foot pedals, harmonize with the case featuring the “WYLER” engraving on the back of the watch.

The Code-S dial has typical features of Wyler Genève watches - an inner oval ring, 11 integrated hour markers and an oversized Arabic “12”. This rhodium-plated element has a matte finish, contrasting with the black dial. Orange SuperLuminova dots are used to mark the hours. Besides the classic combination of black and white, the dial is available in brown, taupe, gray and mother-of-pearl for the ladies’ models. The face of all models is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The ladies’ models come with a white dial, an unusual white composite case middle and a bezel in either white ceramic or red gold adorned with 140 diamonds. The gold models for men have a black dial with a black bezel or a rich coffee-brown dial with matching brown bezel.

The new Code-S models are powered by an automatic Swiss-made chronograph movement, having a 42 hours power reserve. The movement, put into a sealed titanium container, is water resistant to 50 metres. The new Code-S watch models come with a foldover clasp either in gold or in titanium.

Throughout its history, the Wyler watchmaking house company has always been in quest for innovation and reliability, producing innovative, yet sturdy chronographs. The unbreakable Incaflex balance wheel, invented by Paul Wyler, was one of his greatest innovations. This balance wheel, made of metal, had two flexible half-spiral arms that joined at the wheel’s axis to provide shock absorption. To demonstrate the shock-absorbing function of this element, two Wyler Incaflex timepieces were dropped from the top of the Eiffel Tower in 1964. After the fall, both timepieces remained in working condition. In 1962, six Wyler Incaflex timepieces were dropped from a 27-story skyscraper in Washington, Seattle Tower, and once again they remained in perfect working condition. According to legend, Wyler sales agents often perform such tests to convince customers of excellent shock-resistant characteristics of Wyler watches.

Feel free to browse our collection of Wyler replica watches, having the same innovative design and made of quality materials, but costing much less than the real timepieces.
